Georgetown College President William Jones has posted a video asking everyone to shine a light tonight (Thursday, March 26) at 8:29 p.m.
“I have a favor to ask of all of you watching,” Jones said into the camera. “It feels like an understatement to say these are unprecedented and brazen times. Even scary, dark times. I hope you remember that love and light always win in the end.
“In John 1:5, we read, ’The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not over come it.’ To show your commitment to your family, friends, neighbors and to the Georgetown College community, I am asking you to join me and shining a light in the darkness this Thursday at 8:29. Georgetown College was founded in 1829 after all
“I plan to step out on my porch and shine a light for my friends and neighbors on Main Street to see. Will you join me? You can place a candle in the window like I plan to do in my office at Giddings Hall. You can shine your phone’s flashlight. No matter the method you choose to offer light the darkness of the day, I hope you plan to join us on March 26 and let me know how you took a stand for love, for community, for light.”
Jones asks anyone who participates to tag the him or the college on Facebook or the college on Instagram.
“Thank you everyone for being a light in these dark times,” Jones said. “I love you Georgetown College.”
