Citing the increasing social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the “significant decline” in vehicle demand, TMMK and all Toyota North America plants will extend its production shutdown, said Rick Hesterberg, corporate communications manager with Toyota Motor North America.
Production is now set to resume April 20. Manufacturing facilities will remain closed through April 17.
Team members will be paid through April 10, as originally announced. For the week of April 13-19, employees have the option of using PTO (paid time off or vacation) or unpaid time off.
Service parts depots and vehicle logistics centers will continue to operate.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action in a timely manner,” Hesterberg said.
This action is being taken to protect the health and safety of our employees, key stakeholders and communities, as well as a result of the significant market decline due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, states a previous press release.
