New ordinance sets fines for late-night fireworks

Posted: Saturday, June 1, 2013 5:00 am

Fireworks lovers, be warned: Setting off pyrotechnics late at night in Georgetown can now cost you big bucks.

An ordinance enacted this week by Georgetown City Council sets a $100 fine for the first offense, $250 for the second offense within 12 months and $500 for later offenses within a year’s time. Those penalties will affect people who set off fireworks between the hours of 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. daily, although the ordinance does permit the use of fireworks until midnight on Dec. 31, July 3, July 4 or an officially recognized Independence Day.
