Honoring a hero

A procession was held from Tucker, Yokum and Wilson Funeral Home to Southland Christian Church Monday to prepare for visitation services for veteran Georgetown firefighter Johnnie Jacobs who passed away last Thursday.

The GFD asked community members to line the route to show Jacobs “the honor he deserves.”

Jacobs, who was Battalion Chief for the Georgetown Fire Department, was diagnosed with Desquamative interstitial pneumonia, a disease associated with long-term exposure to smoke and chemicals.

He enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing, camping and golfing, his obituary states. He was a member of Great Crossing Baptist Church.

Jacobs and his wife, Katie, have three children, Isabella, Hunter and Sadie.

Funeral services are Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Southland Christian Church in Georgetown.
