Vanderbilt doctors receive first 100 face shields from Toyota

Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville has announced it has received some 100 face shields manufactured here in Georgetown.

These are the first face shields crafted by Toyota, according to the medical center.

The face shields were provided to pulmonary doctors at VUMC this week and were from Toyota’s Production Engineering & Manufacturing Center on Georgetown’s Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky campus.

About 11 days ago, Toyota Motor North America released plans to manufacture face shields, ventilators, respirators and other medical devices while its North America automobile plants were idled due to the coronavirus.

TMNA did not specifically identify which plants would be participating, Kentucky hospitals were mentioned as recipients.

TMMK officials could not be reached for comment.
