To the Editor,
Should the Georgetown News-Graphic continue with our Weekend/Entertainment section that comes out on Friday’s?
To the Editor,
A champion of fiscal responsibility and accountability, Rep. Andy Barr deserves to be commended for his work on H.R. 3326, The World Bank Accountability Act of 2017. This piece of legislation, while tough in its methods for fighting corruption and misuse of funds at the World Bank, is sound and I feel would be effective in accomplishing its goal. In that spirit, I would like to call on Rep. Barr, as a champion of accountability, to consider supporting House Resolution 466 (H. Res. 466) — Supporting the Role of the United States in Promoting Children’s Access to Quality Education in the Poorest Countries through the Global Partnership for Education. The Global Partnership for Education assists partner countries in building schools, hiring and training teachers, and helps their governments responsibly allocate 20 percent of their GDP to sustaining educational excellence. Further, studies have shown that for each year of school boys in the developing world attend, they are 10 percent less likely to be caught up in organized crime, terrorism, or extremist groups.
Rep. Barr is a member of the Peace Corps Caucus on Capitol Hill and throughout his life has shown that he cares deeply for those in the developing world. By supporting this legislation, H. Res. 466, Rep. Barr is showing Kentucky —and the world— that he is not just a champion but a leader on accountability, national securit, and global education.
